GOL released a statement yesterday, 6th December, 2011 regarding a vote by a Maltese MEP. GOL had sent an email last week to all MEPs as the foundation was aware of the upcoming resolution vote to be taken. Although Professor Edward Scicluna initially voted against certain anti-life parts of the resolution , he eventually voted in favour of the entire final resolution which included ensuring access to safe and legal abortion, emergency contraception and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services (which usually include abortion).
To put it plainly, Professor Scicluna initially first voted pro-life, however when the
majority of the EU parliament included the very same pro-abortion language
he had been against, he then voted in favour if the same language he had
just voted against by supporting the entire resolution.
Just as a child does not partially die in an abortion, one cannot be
partially pro-life.

Gift of Life Press Release
06 December 2011
Gift of Life Foundation is concerned about the pro-life record of the
Member of the European Parliament Edward Scicluna, especially as he has indicated that he will be contesting the
next general elections. On the 1rst December Edward Scicluna voted in
favour of the non-legislative resolution European Parliament resolution on the EU
response to HIV/AIDS in the EU and neighbouring countries. Amongst other positive
amendments, this resolution 'calls on the Commission and Council to ensure access to
high-quality, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, information and
supplies; takes the view that this should cover, inter alia, confidential and voluntary
counselling, testing and
treatment for HIV and all sexually transmitted infections; prevention of
unintended
pregnancies; equitable and affordable access to contraceptives, including
access to
emergency contraception; safe and legal abortion, including post-abortion
care; and care
and treatment to prevent vertical transmission of HIV, including to
partners and children.'
This is a well known tactic within the European Parliament that is to
include access to
abortion as a small part of a large resolution so as to make it difficult
for the members to vote
against. John Attard Montalto and Louis Grech were absent for this vote,
while Simon
Busuttil and David Casa voted against it.
GOL will be launching a pro-life candidates watch leading up to the
next general election which will guide voters on the pro-life stance of
prospective candidates.
We urge Dr Scicluna to explain his position on abortion.
A baby at 9 weeks
85% of aborted babies are killed when they are between 7 and 9 weeks old.
At this age the child is formed. Look at this ultrasound of a child at 9 weeks. You can see the heart beating and her mouth opening and closing.

Gift of Life Autumn Campaign
Many of the arguments used in the recent divorce debate here in Malta contain identical positions used by some to justify abortion. These range from arguments in favour of choice to human rights and the unfairness of divorce being available overseas yet illegal in Malta. Of course, Malta is still overwhelmingly pro-life however if people forget what the unborn child actually looks like at very early stages of pregnancy, then these same arguments may one day be used to justify the legalisation of abortion in our country.
In November 2011, Gift of Life embarked on an national information campaign designed to bring to the forfront the protagonist in the pro-life struggle, the unborn child. Billboards where erected all over the Island showing an image of a 9 week old (gestation) child in it’s mother’s womb.

What does +9 mean?
We are generally nine months older than what we claim to be on our birthday. Use the +9 symbol to draw awareness to this. Today everyone in Malta knows what +9 means .It is now being used in other parts of globe also. It is a simple message that screams through all the semantics and lost values. Go here to view a +9 advert in Maltese, as seen on National TV in a recent campaign in Malta.
